School of Life

School Of Life program is for children of HIV clients registered with Choose Life Home Based Care (CLHBC) it was founded after realizing that the children of our clients were left as orphans and vulnerable without anybody to care for them. The program aims to help children grow holistically, responsible and active people in the society.

SOL's Objectives

  • To motivate learners towards education in order to improve on their academic performance
  • To improve on the care and support of orphans and vulnerable learners
  • To engage parents/ guardians in the care and education of their children
  • To train and involve teachers in the fight against stigma and discrimination in schools
  •  

SOL Activities

  1. Teachers meetings is conducted to come up with proper resolutions to address issues faced by children at school such as poor performance, indiscipline, absenteeism stigma and discrimination from peers and teachers…
  2. Children’s camp to address children’s challenges realised during home visits and while at school.
  3. Home visit/Follow ups of all children at home (To involve the parents in the care and Education of their children, sharing issues like: hygiene, bad peers, absenteeism from school, to offer counseling support when necessary …)
  4. Psychosocial support for orphan and vulnerable children (To help and motivate children go to school on daily basis to live a meaningful and happy life. To support orphans and vulnerable children with useful scholastic materials to reduce the rate of absenteeism from school.)
  5. Parents meeting. (To offer knowledge and skills about behavior of the children and learn how to relate or help the children in a positive way)
  6. Students meeting. (To sensitize youth/students on the value of education in relation to behavior change.
  7. Christmas Preparations and celebration. (Educate OVCs on spiritual inputs through drama, songs, Bible study and recollections)
  8. Saturday activity (To empower children with life skills and promote healthy habits and none violent behavior)
  9. Holiday program/Holiday camp to improve on the performance of children through reading, spelling & handwriting)
  10. World Aids Day commemoration (To sensitize children on HIV/AIDS basics)
  11. School fees and requirements (The organisation educates the children of the clients and supply them with scholastic materials to motivate children to go to school)
  12. School visits. Follow up of children in schools to track their attendance
